Android reverse tethering?

I'm pretty far along into Android bringup on a new platform but need to test networking. No WiFi or GPRS yet but I do have USB ADB. I began looking at discussions about "reverse tethering". It seems the emulator must do something like this by default, and wonder if anyone in the group has had success doing this on a real phone? The concept is not much different than what can be done via ActiveSync on a Windows Mobile smartphone. My build is Android 1.6. Thanks!

Phil
